For 3-year-old Riley, Turtle Derby at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital afforded a rare opportunity to go outside the hospital to enjoy the sunshine and fun. The annual Turtle Derby event raises money for the hospital and provides a day of fun and laughter for children in the hospital and their families.
The young boy is the fifth child in Minnesota to receive a Berlin Heart. The device works as an artificial heart doing the work for the left side of Riley's own heart that was damaged by an infection. The life-saving technology is keeping Riley alive while he awaits a heart transplant in the hospital. Click on this link to watch a Fox 9 News Broadcast of Riley's story.
